Moral Red Lines — Catholic Moral Discernment and Red Lines in the Race Toward AGI

Featured / current. An international research and engagement initiative developing morally grounded red lines for advanced AI. The project integrates technical AI analysis with Catholic moral thought and theological anthropology, focusing on meaningful human control, moral agency, human dignity, work, relationships and responsibilities that must not be delegated to machines. J6-60105 — Theology and Digitalization: Anthropological and Ethical Challenges

Current. Interdisciplinary research across theology, philosophy, ethics, psychology and computer science on how digitalization and AI reshape identity, embodiment, empathy, vulnerability, spirituality, relationality and moral agency. The project develops an ethical and theological anthropology for the digital age and practical guidance for human-centred technology.

Expected late 2026–2028

EQUAL-AI — STEM Skills for Inclusive & Industrial AI Adoption

Upcoming — expected to begin in late 2026. EQUAL-AI proposes a European network of STEM Skills Foundries linking higher education, VET, industry, innovation infrastructure and entrepreneurship. The University of Ljubljana is assigned leadership of WP4, focused on hands-on labs and access to AI infrastructure, with responsible and inclusive AI embedded in the skills pathway. Status wording should remain conservative until final grant formalities/status are publicly confirmed.

CARDIO-FL — Context-Aware Cardiac Monitoring with On-Device AI and Federated Learning

Completed. Developed a privacy-preserving mobile cardiac-monitoring pipeline integrating wearable ECG, smartphone PPG and inertial context, on-device inference and federated learning. The project connected adaptive edge AI with real-world digital-health deployment.

AgriAdapt — Energy-Efficient Agriculture Using UAVs and Real-Time Neural Network Adaptation

Completed. Developed a dynamic, resource-efficient machine-learning framework for UAV-based precision agriculture, including context-aware model adaptation, real-time weed detection and efficient deployment on resource-constrained platforms. The project later produced multiple publications and received the 2023 Agrobiznis Agro Hi-Tech 'Best idea' award.

Research on context-aware adaptation and approximation for resource-constrained mobile and edge systems, contributing to work on runtime efficiency, mobile inference and adaptive computation.

Research on resource-efficient mobile computing and approximate computation, forming part of the technical foundation for later adaptive mobile-AI work.

Developed an embodied avatar-based conversational agent with multimodal interaction and dialogue management for deployment as a virtual museum guide.

Developed a multispectral imaging platform and processing pipeline for multi-channel acquisition with applications in cultural heritage, material characterization and environmental analysis.
